Is Mise En Scene’s Perfect Serum Line Really Worth The Hype?

Growing up, I’ve always struggled with frizzy hair. I’ve tried many ways to get rid of the unintentional and unwanted frizz — hair rebonding, different kinds of hair masks, and oils — but to no avail. It was not until late last year that I found my holy grail hair product — mise en scene’s perfect serum!

About Mise En Scene

South Korean brand mise en scene has bagged a total of 180 beauty awards as of February 2020 and secured the title of Korea’s No.1 Hair Essence for 9 consecutive years since its launch in 2000.

Having sold over 60 million bottles worldwide, the Perfect Serum line has no doubt propelled mise en scene to the global success it enjoys today. Formulated with 7 different naturally-derived oils (source:

  1. natural argan
  2. marula
  3. olive
  4. apricot
  5. coconut
  6. camellia, and
  7. jojoba oil

The serums claim to repair and revive even the severest of hair damage within 3 days!

Now, I am no hair expert so I would not be able to differentiate between the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ ingredients used in hair products. Instead, I will simply list the other ingredients used in the Perfect Serum line below (source:

  • Cyclopentasiloxane — helps the serum to dry quickly and spread more easily • Dimethiconol — great in reducing the effects of the weather elements that cause frizz
  • Dimethicone — forms a barrier on the outer layer of the hair which helps to smooth the cuticle and make the hair appear frizz-free
  • C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate — impart a lightly-conditioning, silky finish to the serum
  • Coco-Caprylate/Caprate — provides silkiness and shine to the hair
  • Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit Lipids — makes hair strands stronger and adds a glossy sheen to the hair
  • Glycolipids — helps to repair damaged hair
  • Fragrance

How to Use En Mise Scene

After drying your hair with a towel, apply a suitable amount of the product evenly onto the still wet hair before blow-drying it.

It is recommended to apply the product again to the hair ends as the last step of your hair care routine (source:

Personal Review of En Mise Scene

I first chanced upon mise en scene’s Perfect Serum (Original) on Shopee while looking through Korean beauty products. I’ve seen tons of positive reviews about this particular serum on social media but didn’t think about purchasing it because I was trying out another brand’s hair serum back then.

Being a big fan of both Korean beauty and entertainment, I was exceptionally excited when mise en scene announced Blackpink, a Korean girl group, as its global ambassador. It was after that announcement that I decided I really need to try out this highly raved hair serum myself!

I have long hair so I usually apply 2 pumps of the serum onto my palm, rub my palms together, then apply the serum throughout my wet hair.

My favorite part about using this serum? You can see the results almost instantly! I could tell that my hair was much smoother than usual after blow-drying my hair. Sure, there was still some frizz in my hair but most of it had been significantly reduced thanks to this favorite serum of mine!

The Perfect Serum (Original) has definitely delivered its promises to me. Ever since I started using it last year, I have never wavered towards trying out other serums.

  • A little goes a long way so each bottle can last for quite some time (about 3 months for me)
  • Nice scent
  • Travel-friendly packaging
  • Helps to smooth and moisturize my hair
  • Does not make my hair feel heavy
  • Affordable price
  • Does not make my palms feel sticky

  • Using too much may cause the hair to feel weighed down or oily

Other Variations of Perfect Serum

With 5 varieties to choose from mise en scene’s Perfect Serum line, I am sure that you will be able to find a serum that caters to the needs of your hair!

Perfect Serum Rose Edition contains the same formula of oils as the Original Edition but with a little extra something, which is rose damask essential oils, to give your hair a unique scent. The new addition to this serum also boasts deep hydration properties that will help to effectively treat over-processed dry, tangled hair for smoother and stronger hair (source:

Perfect Styling Serum has been largely praised by those who frequently use heating tools such as hairdryers or curling irons. This particular serum claims to give you the extra protection that you need for heat because of the added substance — royal jelly — which contains rich vitamins and minerals, providing your hair with enough hydration to eliminate dryness (source:

Here’s an extra tip: applying another layer of Perfect Styling Serum onto your hair after styling will help your curls last longer throughout the day!

Perfect Serum Coco Water will definitely hit the spot for those of you who prefer a serum with an ultra-light texture. Containing 200 times more coconut oil than the Original Edition, this serum has a nonsticky, watery texture that does not leave your hair greasy (source:, making it the perfect serum to use in our hot and humid Singapore weather!

Perfect Serum Super Rich has been specially formulated for those with severely damaged hair caused by frequent dyeing and bleaching. With the new addition, golden Morroco argan oil, this serum has been clinically proven to bring a healthy gloss and softness to your hair (source:

I have tried many different hair serums from various brands and mise en scene really does the magic for my hair! What works for me might not work for you. But given the countless positive reviews about mise en scene’s Perfect Serum line, I hope you will give their serum a try too!
