Honey To Lighten Hair

Honey can be a perfect choice for lightener and it has been known for centuries compared to using dye or bleach.  It will also restore the natural shine and moisture of the hair. In this article, you will learn how to use honey to lighten your hair a few shades and how honey conditioner can help to maintain the natural look of your hair.

Honey To Lighten Hair

9 steps that can help you to lighten your hair with honey are given below:

Step 1

  • Create a lightening mixture
  • Honey is sticky so a little amount of water can help to loosen it up and it can be easily applied to your hair. Take a bowl and mix one part of white vinegar or water and four parts of honey and mix it thoroughly. If you are looking for a drastic change, then you can add a little amount of hydrogen peroxide.

This will react with your hair and makes them several shades lighter. If your hairs are dark brown or black then never add peroxide in the mixture. If you are looking for reddish-blonde hue you can add some ground coffee, cinnamon, and henna powder to the mixture.

    Step 2

  • Let the mixture sit for sometime
  • Once you have made the mixture now allow it to sit for almost 30 to 60 minutes.

    Step 3

  • Carefully apply this mixture to your hair
  • To protect your clothes place a towel over your shoulders and then apply the honey mixture in small doses over your hair and with the help of fingers massage the mixture in your hair. Continue this process until all your hairs are covered with the honey mixture.

Place some protective equipment on the floor of the bathroom this will protect your floor from drips otherwise, it would not be easy to remove honey from the floor. If you have added reddening powder to the mixture then don’t put tower or clothes on your body because that might stain red.

    Step 4

  • Cover your hair and let the honey mixture sit
  • You can use a few sheets of plastic or a shower cap on your hair. To achieve a lighter color look let the honey mixture sit for at least 2 hours. If your hairs are long then it would not be easy to cover with plastic sheets.

The best solution is simply twisting your hair and applies a pin over it until the honey treatment is in the process. After pinning your hair place a plastic cover over the hair so that mixture can work well. If you have used hydrogen peroxide in the mixture then avoid using metal clips. For applying heat, there is no need for blow dryers because it works well even at room temperature.

    Step 5

  • For much lighter hair leave the mixture in your hair overnight
  • For much better result it is better to keep this mixture on your hair overnight. If you will allow it in your hair for long time honey will also act as a deep conditioning treatment. While sleeping makes sure that you have placed a towel on your pillow and you are also wearing a shower cap. But if you have added hydrogen peroxide in the mixture then don’t take a risk of leaving it overnight in your hair as it will do more damage than good.

    Step 6

Wash your hair to remove honey

Use warm water to rinse honey out from your hair. Use shampoo or conditioner on your hair as you normally do. Now dry your hair either by a towel or let it air dry. If you want to do it quickly then you can also use a blower. Now you will feel that your hairs are light and honey-colored.

    Step 7

  • Use a maintenance conditioner
  • You can use any mixture that you like but makes sure that its smell mixes well with honey. Make a mixture of ½ cup conditioner and ¼ cup honey. Take a bowl and stir them thoroughly so that a proper mixture is made. If you want to make a mixture in large quantity then use the same ratio of honey and conditioner and you can increase quantities. If the conditioner is in excess take an old conditioner bottle stores it for future use.

    Step 8

  • Make sure that you are using this conditioner after every shampoo
  • Make it a routine. Every time you shampoo your hair, use this honey conditioner similarly as you use the other conditioners. Properly distribute a small amount in your hair and rinse it out when finished. After applying conditioner on your hair leave it for at least 5 to 10 minutes. This method will be helpful for those hairs that were previously lightened using a honey mixture.

    Step 9

  • If your hairs feel sticky minimize the dose of honey conditioner
  • If after rinsing your hairs still feels sticky then reduce the amount of honey conditioner and increase the use of the regular conditioner. Rinse it thoroughly before applying any other conditioner.

    Conclusion

Using honey to lighten your hair is a gentle way without using harsh chemicals. It is an organic hair dye method. This method works effectively because honey naturally contains hydrogen peroxide. The amount of success you achieved through this process depends on how well your hair absorbs honey and how porous your hairs are.

After applying this mixture on your hair result will be shiny, healthy, and silky hair. It will also naturally lighten your hair color. This method can be time taking. If you are using honey just for the lightening purpose, then you might have to continue this treatment for a long period. Another way is to do it multiple times to get the desired and quick results. So the best possible solution without damaging your hair is the use of honey to lighten the hair.
